Wire Binding uses metal C-shaped wires that are threaded through the holes of a document and then squeezed closed to form an 'O' shape keeping the document pages firmly in place. Wire loops come in a variety of sizes to accommodate books of varying thicknesses. The thicker the book, the larger the wire gauge and loop diameter must be for proper function and aesthetics.
A popular choice for reports, workbooks, journals, catalogues, brochures, instructional books (e.g., training guides, course notes), cookbooks, music books, legal documents, maintenance manuals, swatch books, notebooks, diaries, and booklet-style calendars.
Wire Binding is an affordable choice for small to mid-sized projects and is great for documents that require durability with frequent opening and handling. Wire Binding easily accommodates low or high page counts, including tabs and pockets of varying thicknesses.
The bound pages rotate 360 degrees around a wire spine, which means that the document can fold all the way back upon itself, requiring minimal space on a table. Pages flip with little resistance and stay put without being continually held open to view the contents. The pages can be viewed side-by-side on a flat surface for ease of reading.
Wire binding is a great option for quick production runs. It is a mostly straightforward process that requires no adhesives, folding or complex preparation.
Twin Loop can bind documents from smaller than A6 to A3 long edge for pages up to 35mm thick and A2 long edge (594mm) for pages up to 12mm thick.
When setting out your pages, it is good practice to keep all text or images at least 10mm away from the binding edge to not cut into when the holes are punched into the pages.
A fashionable variation of Wire Binding is Half-Canadian Binding or Full-Canadian Binding, which provide for a half or full wrap of the book front cover around the wire spine.
In addition to booklets, Wall and Desk (Tent) Calendars are created using the Wire Binding method to flip pages easily. The lack of spinal tension allows wall calendars to hang flat against the wall. Twin Loop can assist with both types of Canadian Binding and Calendars.
